December Memories

 

December was a full month! Full of concerts, and shows, and plays and friends, and family and church events and celebrating Jesus’ birth, the start of a New Year and three King’s day!

We are thankful for all that God did in 2015 and look forward to seeing Him at work in 2016, both in our own lives, in the lives of our children and in our ministry.

And as this 2016 begins we will cling to Him even more dearly. For in Him is life, and joy and peace and fullness. We hope your 2016 started off with a bang!

Merry Christmas from our family to yours! Christmas is such a special holiday for me. It is a reminder not only of my Savior’s birth, but that He came, that He lived here on earth and experienced all the same struggles I do… and He did not have to. He chose to. He became our High Priest who is able to sympathize with our sufferings (Hebrews 4) because of Christmas. And after he had lived… he died. For you and for me. And the greatest joy is that He did not stay in the grave!! He rose again. And because He rose again I can have eternal life (John 3).

The best Christmas gift

 

The best Christmas gift this year was that my nephew, Scout, was able to  come for Christmas! ANd although he is still facing various challenges, God has done miracles in his little body and he is doing well!

This week we kick off a series of events as a church concluding Sunday with a Christmas concert.

We will be giving food, clothing and toys to needy families in our town; and hosting to concerts in church on Sunday evening. The event that we are so excited about is this thursday: Bracciaperte, the ministry to immigrants in our local community, will be hosting an event for the children who attend our weekly tutoring sessions. Their families have been invited as well.

Please pray for all these upcoming events and then the light that shone among us long ago will shine in the hearts of many people in this community throughout this week of festivities.

We had the wonderful joy and privilege to have a staff retreat this weekend.

We have the best team in the world and it is such an honor to work with them. The thing that always amazes me is that they are all volunteers … they serve because reaching the nations is a huge part of their hearts.

We were able to work on our vision and planning for the upcoming year, and to pray and spend time together and with the Lord!

A huge thank you to our amazing team. We love you!

Asking for prayers for my littlest nephew, Scout.

He was operated Wednesday December 2 due to a blockage between the exit of his stomach and his duodenum. He has been encountering numerous hurdles since his surgery so we would just ask for your continued prayers for healing, and for his parents for strength as the days in the hospital drag on and for financial provision for the enormous medical costs that they will be affronting when he his finally released.

We love our little buddy and it is tremendously difficult to be far away during times like this. So you can say a little prayer for us and our kids as well.

Rejoice! Be thankful! Give thanks! For God is immensely good and His love endures forever! So much to be thankful for this season. Most of all for allowing me to have eternal life through the gift of His son (Ephesians 2:8-9)

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

There are 6.7 billion people in the world. (Joshua Project)

2.3 billion are Christian (748 million are Evangelical Christian). (Joshua Project; Barrett and Johnson 2001, 20)

Of the 6.7 billion people in the world, 2.7 billion live among unreached people groups of the world and 1.6 billion are completely unevangelized. (Joshua Project; Barrett and Johnson 2001, 427)

People groups are what Bible scholars believe are referred to in many mission oriented verses, such as Matthew 28:19, 24:14, and Revelations 7:9. According to one database, there are 16,562 people groups in the world. Of these people groups, 9,715 have been reached with the Gospel message. 6,847 people groups are still unreached with the Gospel. To be unreached means less than 2% Evangelical Christian, the sizable proportion thought to be needed to reach their own people. (Joshua Project)

In AD 100 there were 12 unreached people groups for every congregation of believers. Now there is 1 unreached people group for every 1000 congregations. (Winter et al., 3)

90% of foreign missionaries work among already reached people groups. 10% work among unreached people groups. (Winter and Koch, 543)

Despite Christ’s command to evangelize, 67% of all humans from AD 30 to the present day have never even heard the name of Jesus Christ. (Baxter 2007, 12)

91% of all Christian outreach/evangelism does not target non-Christians, but targets other Christians. (Baxter 2007, 12)

Of foreign mission funding: 87% goes for work among those already Christian. 12% for work among already evangelized, but Non-Christian. 1% for work among the unevangelized and unreached people. (Baxter 2007, 12)

Christians make up 33% of the world’s population, but receive 53% of the world’s annual income and spend 98% of it on themselves. (Barrett and Johnson 2001, 656)

Only .1% of all Christian giving is directed toward mission efforts in the 38 most unevangelized countries in the world. (Barrett and Johnson 2001, 656)

American Christians spend 95% of offerings on home-based ministry, 4.5% on cross-cultural efforts in already reached people groups, and .5% to reach the unreached. (The Traveling Team)

There are 430,000 missionaries from all branches of Christendom. Only between 2 and 3% of these missionaries work among unreached peoples. (The Traveling Team)

40% of the church’s entire global foreign mission resources are being deployed to just 10 oversaturated countries. (World Evangelization Research Center)

OUT OF 648 MILLION EVANGELICAL CHRISTIANS, 70% HAVE NEVER BEEN TOLD ABOUT THE 1.6 BILLION UNEVANGELIZED INDIVIDUALS IN THE WORLD. (World Evangelization Research Center)

The harvest is ready

I am always humbled and at the same time filled anew with passion and motivation when I spend a weekend with our candidates.

This last weekend we hosted a preparation and teaching retreat for our candidates who are preparing to go. It was an intense weekend filled with rich and thought provoking teaching. We are thankful to our guest who was with us and all that he was able to give to us through his insightful teaching.

My favorite comment of the weekend was when was of the candidates interpreted that the most important part of a scripture was to go where no one else has gone before….I can see this passion growing in their hearts. To reach the unreached. To bring light where there is still only darkness.

Please please keep them in your prayers! Because they are willing to sacrifice everything their battles are many and the people who support them are few.

God is greater than these battles and the call pushes us forward … for HIS glory and for the lost.
