Merry Christmas

Why do we celebrate Christmas?

We sing lyrics to these carols, without thinking about what we are saying.

O Come all ye faithful

O come, all ye faithful,
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem;
Come and behold him,
Born the King of angels;
O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
O Come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

Sing, choirs of angels,
Sing in exultation,
Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above;
Glory to God
In the highest; Refrain

Child, for us sinners

Yea, Lord, we greet thee,
Born this happy morning;
Jesus, to thee be glory given;
Word of the Father,
Now in flesh appearing;

Joy to the World!

Joy to the world! the Lord is come;
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
and heaven and nature sing,
and heaven and nature sing,
and heaven, and heaven and nature sing.

Joy to the earth! the Savior reigns;
Let men their songs employ;
while fields and floods,
rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessing flow
far as the curse is found,
far as the curse is found,
far as, far as the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
and makes the nations prove
the glories of His righteousness,
and wonders of His love,
and wonders of His love,
and wonders, wonders of His love.

What Child is this?

What Child is this who, laid to rest
On Mary’s lap is sleeping?
Whom Angels greet with anthems sweet,

While shepherds watch are keeping?

This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and Angels sing;
Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

What Child is this who, laid to rest
On Mary’s lap is sleeping?
Whom Angels greet with anthems sweet,

The silent Word is pleading.

Nails, spear shall pierce Him through,
The cross be borne for me, for you.
Hail, hail the Word made flesh,

The Babe, the Son of Mary.

Why lies He in such mean estate,
Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christians, fear, for sinners here

So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh,
Come peasant, king to own Him;
The King of kings salvation brings,
Let loving hearts enthrone Him.

Raise, raise a song on high,
The virgin sings her lullaby.
Joy, joy for Christ is born,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

Remember what you are singing this year and think about why you are singing it. The King of kings salvation brings, let loving hearts enthrone him!

Merry Christmas from our family to yours!

Increasing in Number

Acts 6:1,7 “Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number…And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith.”

Acts 2:41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. Acts 2:40-42 (in Context)

Acts 2:47 “praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”Acts 2:46-47 (in Context)

Acts 5:14 “Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number.” Acts 5:13-15 (in Context)

It is interesting how easy it is to take for granted what God is doing around us. When countries go through huge revivals and thousands of people come to the Lord at once, everyone is amazed and praises the Lord (and rightly so). But when 1 person comes to the Lord one Sunday, 2 at a women’s service, 3 at an evangelistic event, 4 when they were invited by their friends, and 6 on another Sunday we tend to overlook these victories. Jesus says in Luke 15:7, “I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.” There will be great rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents! Even when one person comes to the Lord, heaven throws a party. Because every person is important to Jesus. We are so excited that God is “adding to our numbers daily”. Weekly people are coming to the Lord in the church through Sunday services, women’s meetings, youth services, evangelism, invitations by friends, and many other ways that the Lord continues to draw them to Him. God is good and we know that there is great rejoicing in heaven over each soul who has repented and has found the Lord (for example: two people came forward last Sunday and 5 came forward this Sunday to accept the Lord).
